District Track Championship – Boys win, girls finish second

   Led by Jakaylin Brown and Keibran Mason, the JHMS boys’ and girls’ track teams closed out the 2015 season with a 1 - 2 finish at the South County District Championships at Boca Ciega High School March 25. JHMS won the boys’ team title and finished second in the girls’ title race.

   In overall team scoring, Bay Point finished first (157 points), followed by John Hopkins (117), Meadowlawn (104), Azalea (89), and Tyrone (31).

   Keibran had a busy day, winning the 400 dash, the 100 hurdles, the high jump, and anchoring the winning 4X400 relay team. Jakaylin won the discus, ran a leg on the second place 4X100 relay race, and finished second in the shot put.

   For the Lady Trojans. Ireonia Lightsey and Raven Anderson finished first and second, respectively, in the girls’ 400 dash. Denise Papaleo, Zymireah Walker, Jakaylin Browm and Alona Johnson finished second in the girls’ 4X100 relay.

   Raven Anderson, Ireonia Lightsey, Alona Johnson and Cydney Schweinsburg finished third in the 4X400 relay, and Raven finished third in the long jump.

   For the boys, Keibran, Jalen Dixon and Demetrius McCrae finished 1-2-3 in the 400 dash, Charles Sabodski was second in the 1,660 run, Torrence Ruffin was third in the long jump, Marques Alexander was second in the shot put, and JHMS won the 4X100 relay.
